St. Julien le Montagnier: Home for the Summer

After a whirlwind few weeks of moving out of the apartment in Setenil and traveling around Europe with  my brothers, we were quite happy to arrive chez Sue and Scott in little Saint Julien which has been our home base for the summer.

These last few months have been spent between hanging out with Sue, Scott, and the dogs, and exploring and experiencing the beautiful Provence area. Ben has been doing some work around the yard and I have been giving some private English lessons over telephone and skype.

Yuki has been loving having plenty of space to run around in, and has been trying to figure out her place in a pack of three other dogs. Coca has also been enjoying some outdoor time after being an indoor kitty the whole time in Setenil.

One of our big projects this summer was buying, and registering a car!

Another project was bringing to life Scott's vision of a little patio in the "Secret Garden," All the stones came from the property and quite a lot of them were pickaxed out of the ground by Ben and Scott when they were trying to level the area.

We're pretty proud of how it turned out. The Secret Garden is the perfect spot for watching the sunset and the resident bat who flies around most nights.

In the mornings Yuki and I have been going on a lot of hikes in the hills and countryside. One morning Ben, Yuki, and I hiked up the hill to the top of St. Julien to see the 11th century church and windmill.

I've spent a lot of time walking , running and now practicing driving our new car (stick shift...) through the sunflower fields. We didn't spend too much time in the lavender fields before the harvest, but it's hard to go anywhere in Provence in the summer without seeing some of the brilliant purple!
