Semana Santa Setenil, Domingo Resurreccion: Resurrection Sunday/Easter

The processions of Resurrection Sunday were put on by los blancos. Since the time for penitence was over, no one wore their hoods. The images in the procession were Cristo Resucitado and Nuestra Senora del Rosario.

The children who were not in the processions ran around trying to find their friends who held the candles. They had their friends drip wax from their candles to create big wax balls.

Easter baskets (and Easter eggs) are not really a thing here, but some kids carried baskets full of prayer cards to hand out. On Easter, some carried baskets of lilies which you could receive for a small donation. 

The streets were covered in wax droplets from four days of candles. 

This little girl is one of the children from town who are infatuated with Yuki. She goes to the colegio (elementary school) so she isn't one of my students.

A little before the procession ended at the church, they stopped in the Plaza. The people carrying the statues brought Jesus and Mary to face each other and they danced while the town cheered and threw flower petals from above.

Semana Santa Setenil, Viernes Santo: Good Friday

Good Friday consisted of processions put on by both brotherhoods, los negros and los blancos. The below photos are from the processions of los negros. The images carried in this procession are Nuestra Senora de la Soledad (Our Lady of Solitude) and Padre Jesus Nazareno (Father Jesus of Nazareth, or Jesus carrying the cross).

Above you can see a stick used to raise the power lines so that Jesus' cross could pass beneath. This is right down the street from our house. 

The processions were accompanied by both the military and their marching bands.

Semana Santa Setenil, Jueves Santo: Holy Week Setenil, Holy Thursday

Semana Santa, Holy Week, is a big deal in Spain, and celebrated in each town or city with processions. The Holy Week of Setenil is especially beautiful, and has been declared of National Tourist Interest. A multitude of people poured into our tiny village to witness the processions. Semana Santa in Setenil is put on my the two brotherhoods of the town: the Hermandad de la Santa Vera Cruz (los blancos) and the Hermandad de Nuestro Padre Jesus (los negros). The processions of the first day, Holy Thursday are put on by los blancos.
Ben and I made our way to the Iglesia de Nuestra Senora de la Encarnation (what we refer to as "the big church on the hill) at 8pm on Thursday to watch the procession begin.

The images carried are Senor Amarrao a la Columna (Our Lord scourged at the pilar) and Nuestra Senora de los Dolores (Our Lady of Sorrows).

At 1:30 AM on Good Friday there was also a beautiful silent procession where the whole town turned off their lights and the procession made its way through town lit by candles, the only sound was the songs of prayer. We're currently working on getting pictures off my phone, so we should have pics of this soon.
