A Few Days in Frankfurt

We finished off our Christmas travels in Frankfurt, Germany. We went to Romerberg, or Old Town, where there were traditional German buildings, some neat art installations, and the Cathedral of St. Bartholomew.

New Years in Prague

On New Years Eve we took a bus from Budapest to Prague. We headed to Charles Bridge to see the NYE fireworks. People were shooting off fireworks all around us, it was amazing.

The Czech Republic celebrates it's independence day on January 1st, so we got to see a fireworks show on New Years Day as well.

Our first day of exploring the city we went up to Castle Hill with some friends from the hostel. This is the monastery there.

St. Vitus Cathedral had the most intricate stained glass I've ever seen.

Behind the cathedral there was a little market where we got some food and hot chocolate.

Then we made our way through Golden Lane which had a weapons and torture museum.

After spending the morning at the castle, we went to see the Lennon Wall. The wall started during the communist regime as a place for people to secretly write encouraging messages. It has been painted over many times, but it always gets filled back up again, and is ever changing.

Around the corner from the Wall, we stopped into the Lennon Pub for some drinks.

After a bit in the pub we braved the cold again and went for a walk on the Charles Bridge.

Across the bridge we arrived in Old Town Square to see the Astronomical Clock. The clock was installed in 1410, and is the oldest functioning astronomical clock. When the clock strikes the hour, the doors on the tower open up and wooden figures of the twelve apostles come out.

There were shops everywhere selling Bohemian crystal.

The next day we went back to the Old Town to see the Powder Gate.

From the top of the Powder Gate we got a great view of the city.

Then we went to the Jewish Quarter. We went into the Spanish Synagogue, the Pinkas Synagogue, and the Jewish Cemetery.

We ended the day at the Vysehrad Castle. Trying to find the Castle we were fooled by the abbey below, heading for its spires thinking it must be the castle.

Once we found the castle we got some great views just in time for sunset.

On the way back from the castle we walked past the Dancing House, one of the few modern buildings in Prague.

While in Prague we went to Crossclub, a really cool steam punk club with crazy metal sculptures everywhere.
